The History of the Church

From the vision of Pastor Theotis Summerset, Jr., given by the Lord Jesus Christ, The Guiding Light Worship Center, Inc. began with its first service, in Mount Vernon, GA, on April 4, 1992. The Lord led Pastor Summerset and congregation from Alamo, GA to Mount Vernon, GA, where a church building was already in place. However, before the first service could take place, there was an extensive remodeling work done on the church that took a year to complete. Led by Elder Burkett, with the assistance of Brother Kenneth Foreman, Bro. Kenneth J. Faison, Bro. Kristopher J. Faison, Deacon George Archie, Pastor Theotis Summerset, Rev. Wayne Summerset, Bro. Thomas Lott, and the Women Department led by Missionary Kay L. Summerset, and assisted by Sis. Daisy Foreman, Sis Dorothy Mackey, Sis Linda Collins, Sis Carrie Brinson, Mother Annie Summerset, Mother Sarah Brinson, and many of the other members.

After twelve months of hard work, the light was revealed. With the help of those faithful few members giving and sacrificing, the house of the Lord was built. And the Lord gave a name. It shall be called "The Guiding Light Church." The Lord has been blessing the church to become a light that is sitting on a hill where people can come to experience the Love, Peace, Joy, Hope, and Spiritual growth in the Lord.

In March of 2007, the Lord gave Pastor Summerset the vision to build the new Guiding Light. The new church would be a light that would impact communities all around it. The Lord revealed a simple plan that has produced an awesome outcome. The word says that "Success is without sorrow." Again, the Lord took a faithful group of people with the same heart and worked a wonder in our sight. After two years and a lot of planning, the Lord allowed us to walk from the old church to the new sanctuary on Sunday, September 13, 2009 during our morning service. It was an awesome time of rejoicing and giving God praise for all of the things He had done. The first phase of our building process is complete and now the Lord has started us on the next phase of building. This next phase will give us much needed classrooms, a dining facility, and other improvements that will allow us to serve the body of Christ with excellence. God continues to prove Himself unto us. We understand that where there is unity, there is strength.
